Worlds First Panda-Themed Immersive XR Film Premiered in China

“Moutain Deity Panda-Treasure Map of Jiuzhou Huazang” - the

world’s first panda-themed XR large scale interactive film - premiered at the Chengyi

Science and Technology Exploration Center in Fujian, China. The production is also

the first virtual reality film in the province to obtain China’s official “Dragon Seal”

certification, the national Film Release Permit.

Centered on the panda protagonist “Pan Wa’er,” the film transports audiences into a

seamless fusion of physical and digital worlds. Wearing lightweight customized gear,

viewers can reach out to touch virtual banyan leaves, stroll through a digital

recreation of the historic “Three Lanes and Seven Alleys,” and join Pan Wa’er in

protecting the mystical “Scroll of the Nine Provinces” amid dynamic light and shadow.

Through interactive tasks, participants help restore the scroll and fend off “trash

monsters.” Powered by a bespoke positioning system and interactive engine, the experience transforms audiences from passive spectators into engaged co

storytellers, turning traditional watching into shared emotional journey.

The film thoughtfully integrates distinctive Fujian cultural symbols — including the

Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, traditional cork carving, and jasmine tea — weaving

cutting edge technology with local heritage. On opening day, many families came to

experience this innovative format. Ms. Lin, who attended with her child, shared that

they had come specifically for the novel experience. Her child added that

accompanying Pan Wa’er on the adventure also taught them the importance of

protecting nature.

By bridging a gap in Fujian’s immersive media landscape, this fully interactive, large

scale XR production offers audiences — particularly families — a fresh form of

cultural entertainment during the Lunar New Year holiday season.
