According to the “Global Handheld Smart Camera Tracker” report released by
International Data Corporation (IDC) on March 21, the global market for action
cameras grew by 72% year-over-year in 2025. Within this segment, the panoramic
camera market surpassed $1.212 billion, marking an 88% year-over-year increase, as
the overall market expanded significantly.
Notably, the Chinese brand Insta360 continued to solidify its leading position,
retaining the top spot in both global panoramic camera unit sales and revenue with a
66% market share—meaning that for every three panoramic cameras sold globally,
two come from Insta360. In the thumb camera market, Insta360 ranked first globally
with a 57% share of sales; in the broader action camera market, Insta360 ranked
second globally with a 37% share of sales, demonstrating strong growth resilience.
In 2025, all of Insta360’s product lines achieved rapid growth: global wide-angle
camera sales revenue increased by 321% year-over-year, panoramic camera sales
revenue grew by 61%, thumb camera sales revenue rose by 89%, and overall sales
revenue for the broader action camera market surged by 97.5% year-over-year.
Annual revenue approached 10 billion yuan, a year-over-year increase of 76.85%,
reaching an all-time high; fourth-quarter revenue growth exceeded 100%, marking the
highest rate in the past 10 quarters. During the same period, R&D investment reached
1.649 billion yuan, surpassing the total for the three years from 2022 to 2024, with a
focus on chip customization and strategic projects to continuously strengthen the
company’s technological moat.
Behind this performance growth lies the sustained momentum of product innovation
and channel development. In March 2026, Insta360 launched the Snap, an innovative
smartphone imaging accessory featuring a magnetic-attachment selfie screen with
real-time preview, addressing the “blind shooting” issue associated with rear-facing
cameras. The company also plans to release the Luna handheld gimbal camera in the
first half of the year, which is expected to be the market’s first handheld gimbal
camera equipped with a telephoto lens, delivering mirrorless-level image quality.
