WaveX Ignites India’s Creative Tech Boom with Seven New AVGC-XR Startup Hubs

WaveX, the innovative startup accelerator under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting’s WAVES initiative, has dramatically expanded its support for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics (AVGC), and Extended Reality (XR) startups by launching seven new incubation centers across India.

These state-of-the-art hubs are located at premier media institutions such as the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) campuses in Delhi, Jammu, Dhenkanal, Kottayam, and Amravati, alongside the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata. These join the flagship center at the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai, renowned for its cutting-edge infrastructure for film, gaming, and immersive media.

With access to top-tier facilities—including 8K Red Raptor cameras, Dolby Atmos-enabled theatres, virtual production stages, photogrammetry systems, VR kits, edit suites, and powerful workstations—startups are positioned to innovate and excel. Beyond equipment, these centers provide co-working spaces, AV/digital labs, cloud credits, and sandbox testing environments spanning OTT, VFX, VR, gaming, and publishing sectors.

Each centre will select 15 startups for its inaugural cohort, offering access to cutting-edge production, post-production, and game development infrastructure. Monthly fees are set at ₹8,500 plus GST, with priority given to

WaveX’s program offers structured mentorship, policy guidance, investor networking, and industry advisory sessions. The accelerator is also forging strategic collaborations with IITs, T-Hub, and prominent incubators to broaden learning opportunities and connect startups to a vibrant innovation ecosystem. Startups further gain opportunities to collaborate with Ministry of I&B media units such as Doordarshan, All India Radio, and the Press Information Bureau.

The accelerator’s unique two-phase model includes an “active” incubation period focused on business-building, product development, and fundraising, followed by a “passive” phase aimed at global showcasing and sustained mentorship. Unlike typical incubators, WaveX specializes in nurturing early-stage, often “unrealized” creative technology ideas, fostering breakthrough innovations.

This expansion is set to energize India's AVGC-XR startup landscape, fueling creativity, collaboration, and global visibility for emerging Indian tech talents.

Applications are now open at https://wavex.wavesbazaar.com, with the first cohort expected to begin later this year.
