TrendForce: Global AR Glasses Shipments Expected to Reach Around 600,000 Units in2025

TrendForce released its latest report, 2025 Near-Eye Display Market Trends

and Technology Analysis. According to the report, as international brands gradually unveil AR

glasses prototypes and Meta is expected to release its AR glasses Celeste soon, market

attention toward AR devices is rising. Coupled with falling prices for OLEDoS products, global AR glasses shipments are projected to reach approximately 600,000 units in 2025.

In the long term, the information-display AR market shows strong growth momentum.

Beginning in 2028, with high-end full-color AR technology maturing and more refined products

from international brands entering the market, shipments are expected to reach 32.1 million

units by 2030.

TrendForce notes that AI technology helps consumers better envision AR glasses

applications, aiding the gradual formation of market specifications. For example, regarding

light engines, brands now require power consumption below 300 mW, fluid volume under 1

cc, and weight under 3 g to meet consumer expectations.

For suppliers, these requirements add challenges to already complex technology but also

help standardize specifications. Currently, mainstream LEDoS and LCoS panel sizes range

from 0.13–0.18 inches with pixel densities exceeding 5,500 PPI. LEDoS resolutions are

typically 640×480 to 720×720, while LCoS resolutions are mostly 720×720, showing little

difference between the two. To control costs, CMOS substrate size and design are also

expected to standardize.

Although standardized specifications limit brand differentiation and product iteration, they

facilitate scale, reduce costs, aid in overall device design, clarify market positioning, and

make prices more aligned with consumer expectations. This, in turn, attracts more potential

users to the AR glasses market, creating a positive growth cycle.

Meanwhile, international giants such as Meta and Google are actively investing in AR supply

chains. The participation of suppliers like LUMUS, Goertek, JBD, Xreal, and Omnivision is

expected to benefit from market expansion, further strengthening the ecosystem and laying a

solid foundation for achieving multi-million-unit shipments by 2030
