ree

Massive Investment in Innovation

The Tamil Nadu government is set to establish a major Centre of Excellence for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) in Chennai, dubbed the ‘Viyan AVGC-XR Hub’, with a planned budget of ₹50 crore. This initiative is being led by Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (ELCOT) and aims to create high-end job opportunities and solidify Chennai’s position as a tech and creative powerhouse.

Scaling Statewide Impact

The move will not be limited to Chennai—zonal AVGC-XR sub-centres will also be developed in Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Salem, and Tirunelveli over the next three years in partnership with local educational institutions and startups. These sub-centres will promote regional innovation, skill development, and direct industry-academia collaboration, ensuring the growth reaches every corner of Tamil Nadu.

Upskilling in AI and Emerging Tech

In parallel, the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation will roll out free online training modules on Artificial Intelligence and data analysis for government employees, and introduce new degree courses focused on these domains. This holistic approach not only prepares youth for future employment but also strengthens the state’s competitive edge in cutting-edge technology.

Transforming India’s Tech Creative Ecosystem

The state's investments are part of a larger national push to make India a global content and tech innovation hub, with regional “hub and spoke” models ensuring equitable development in AVGC-XR and immersive tech sectors. By nurturing creative talent, fostering research, and facilitating public-private partnerships, Tamil Nadu is positioning itself at the forefront of India’s creative economy transformation.
