India’s digital creative sector is poised for a major boost as the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) opens admissions for its inaugural batch starting this August. The institute will offer 17 carefully curated courses spanning Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR), designed to prepare students for the fast-evolving creative technology landscape.

Announced by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw at the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (Waves) in May 2025, IICT has forged strong global and industry partnerships to deliver cutting-edge education. The new academic programs include four specialized gaming courses, four focused on post-production, and nine covering animation, comics, and XR technologies, all developed in close collaboration with leading industry experts.

In a significant international collaboration, IICT recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of York, UK. This partnership will facilitate joint research, faculty exchanges, and globally recognized certification pathways—further elevating the institute’s academic stature. IICT has also secured long-term commitments from technology giants such as Google, YouTube, Adobe, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and JioStar. These collaborators will support the institute through curriculum development, scholarships, internships, startup incubation, and job placement opportunities.

Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, CEO of IICT, expressed the institute’s mission to transform India into a global powerhouse in AVGC-XR by nurturing highly skilled talent. He emphasized that the courses are designed to meet international standards, while harnessing India’s vibrant creative potential. Detailed course syllabi and program structures are expected to be released later this month.

The IICT governing board includes prominent leaders such as Sanjay Jaju, Vikas Kharge, Swati Mhase, Chandrajit Banerjee, Ashish Kulkarni, Manvendra Shukul, and Rajan Navani. Additionally, the governing council features Munjal Shroff, Chaitanya Chichlikar, Biren Ghose, Bhupendra Kainthola, and Gaurav Banerjee.

With the global AVGC-XR market forecasted to expand rapidly, IICT’s comprehensive and industry-driven courses aim to cultivate a future-ready workforce that will substantially contribute to India’s creative economy and reinforce the country’s leadership in immersive and digital content technologies.
