Coray, the brand under Chengdu Guangyu Gaowei Technology, launched its
next-generation flagship product: the Coray Air2. As the world’s first consumer AR device to
feature an etched silicon carbide waveguide combined with full-color Micro LED technology,
the Coray Air2 weighs just 49 grams and offers a peak brightness of 6,000 nits. This launch
marks a significant shift in the AR market, transitioning from closed hardware to an open
platform ecosystem.

The Coray Air2 is priced at CNY 4,999 during the launch (originally CNY 5,699), breaking the
industrys long-standing challenge of limited AR usability and closed ecosystems.
The key innovation of the Coray Air2 lies in the commercial implementation of etched silicon
carbide waveguides, a material with diamond-like hardness. The precision required for nano-
level etching is extremely high — with control of grating period at the nano scale and an
etching depth error of less than 5nm to avoid light degradation or rainbow interference. The
collaboration between Coray and Guangna Siwei utilized DUV photolithography and reactive
ion etching technology to control the uniformity of the etching process within 2%, eliminating
rainbow effects and enabling ultra-thin 0.7mm waveguides at just 4g per piece.
Equipped with a full-color Micro LED display, the optical system achieves 8-bit true color (16.7
million colors) with 90% high light transmittance and a peak brightness of 6000 nits. Even in
strong outdoor lighting, the display remains clear and vivid. This breakthrough overcomes the
common AR issue of "clear indoors, washed out outdoors offering a significant improvement over traditional diffraction waveguide devices.
