ree

Get ready for a revolution in learning! For the first time, students in Tambaram corporation schools will soon be able to explore the wonders of science and technology like never before, thanks to the introduction of Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) smart classes. Imagine examining robots up close or witnessing a rocket launch in stunning 3D – all within arm's reach!

This groundbreaking initiative kicks off with a trial run at the Municipality Higher Secondary School in Jamin Pallavaram, serving over 1,100 students. At a cost of ₹92 lakh, this initial phase will help assess the effectiveness of the new technology before a wider rollout across all Tambaram schools. "This is part of our broader plan to integrate technology into schools," stated Tambaram Mayor K Vasanthakumari, highlighting the corporation's commitment to modern education.

The state-of-the-art AR/VR smart class package includes 30 META VR headsets, 30 tablets for interactive assessments, a digital kiosk, and an LED panel. The curriculum is meticulously aligned with the Tamil Nadu state board syllabus, with lessons available in both English and Tamil. This ensures that the immersive learning experience directly supports academic goals.

Corporation Commissioner S Balachander emphasized the long-term vision behind this upgrade, noting that the civic body has been dedicated to enhancing digital infrastructure in schools. Private firm NETCOM was chosen to implement the project, which currently focuses on simplifying complex science concepts. "If students watch a rocket launch in 3D, it will be imprinted in their minds, and they can picture a concept better," he explained.

Arun Mozhi, headmistress of Jamin Pallavaram School, echoed this sentiment, recognizing the evolving learning preferences of today's students. "Students, especially in the age of AI and ChatGPT, no longer like reading long paragraphs or texts. VR tech will help them grasp concepts better and inculcate an interest in science and tech, which is the future," she said.

This initiative follows the recent launch of AI and robotics labs in two of the 35 schools under Tambaram corporation, further demonstrating their commitment to fostering innovation and digital literacy from a young age.
