Robotic Cardiac Surgery Takes a Giant Leap at MGM Healthcare, Chennai

A New Era in Heart Care Begins

A remarkable milestone was achieved today as MGM Healthcare in Chennai officially launched its robotic cardiac surgery program, marking a significant advancement in India's medical landscape. This event not only highlights technological progress but also showcases the power of collaboration, innovation, and the vision to make world-class healthcare accessible across the country.

A Journey of Expertise and Mentorship

What made this launch truly special was the involvement of Dr. Lalit Malik, a pioneer in robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. After establishing a successful robotic cardiac program at Manipal Hospital, Jaipur, Dr. Malik brought his expertise-honed under the guidance of SS Innovations’ Chairman and Founder, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava-to Chennai. The program at MGM Healthcare is led by senior consultant cardiac surgeon Dr. Vinod Kumar Manikala, with Dr. Malik providing support via tele-proctoring over a distance of 2,126 kilometers, a feat made possible by cutting-edge technology.

SSI Mantra: Made in India, For the World

At the heart of this achievement is the SSi Mantra surgical robotic system, a product of Indian innovation designed to be modular, versatile, and cost-effective. Developed by SS Innovations under Dr. Srivastava’s leadership, this technology is revolutionizing surgical care by making advanced procedures more affordable and accessible, particularly for underserved populations. The SSi Mantra is the only robotic system globally approved for telesurgery and tele-proctoring by India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, enabling seamless remote collaboration and training.

Decentralizing Excellence, Democratizing Access

This successful surgery at MGM Healthcare is more than just a technical triumph-it embodies SS Innovations’ core philosophy: decentralizing excellence and democratizing access to advanced surgical technologies. By establishing a holistic training cycle, SSI ensures that expertise is shared and multiplied, “paying it forward” so that patients everywhere can benefit, regardless of geographical or resource limitations.

A Future Without Boundaries

Today’s achievement broke barriers-geographical, technological, and educational. It streamlined the evolution of surgical training and set a new standard for how expertise can be shared across vast distances. With advanced robotic systems and tele-proctoring, the future of healthcare is one where world-class treatment is within reach for everyone.

Celebrating Teamwork and Vision

Hats off to all teams involved for their dedication and excellence. This milestone is a testament to the power of Indian innovation and the relentless pursuit of better, more accessible healthcare.
