QWR & Kaynes Power Up Nation’s First End-to-End AR/VR Wearables Manufacturing Hub

ree

India has taken a giant step towards XR hardware self-reliance thanks to the much needed and awaited alliance between QWR Interactive Solutions, a Pune-based leader in deep-tech XR and AI wearables, and electronics manufacturing powerhouse Kaynes Technology.

Together, they are building the nation’s first fully integrated hub for waveguide and XR device manufacturing—establishing a domestic ecosystem that was, until now, missing beyond China.

At the heart of this initiative is a purpose-built manufacturing facility near Mysore, featuring advanced cleanroom standards for optical component production. This new waveguide factory, supported by an assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) unit, sets a new benchmark for homegrown AR/VR hardware quality.

The collaboration expects to reduce India’s reliance on imported XR devices by as much as 50% and aims to create over 1,000 skilled jobs by 2027.

QWR will spearhead design and IP as the original design manufacturer, providing the know-how for XR glasses and headsets, like the soon-to-be-mass-produced HUMBL glasses. Kaynes, meanwhile, brings industrial muscle and scale, ramping up facilities with new surface mount technology and optical calibration lines—enabling end-to-end manufacturing of global-grade XR devices entirely in India.

The roadmap is ambitious: within 16 months, localized content in production is set to jump from 25% to an impressive 80–85%, driven by technology transfer, new SOPs, and advanced tooling. The hub will roll out in various phases, beginning with AR/VR headsets and waveguides, and soon expanding into AI-powered smart glasses targeting defense, education, and enterprise training applications.

“Our partnership gives India full-stack ownership of the XR value chain,” said Suraj Aiar, CEO of QWR. Himanshu Verma, head of AI/XR business at Kaynes, emphasized the importance of building world-class hardware in India and training a new generation of engineers and technicians to lead the future of immersive tech.

With the Indian XR market poised for explosive growth and the global sector expected to surpass $150 billion by 2030, this strategic initiative not only boosts local innovation and high-value job creation but also positions India as a formidable player in XR exports and next-generation technology development.

Together, QWR and Kaynes are lighting the path for India’s leadership in global immersive technology—offering the world a new vision of what “Made in India” can mean for AR, VR, and AI-powered wearables
