CUSAT Debuts SphereVerse India’s Own Virtual Reality Lab for Scientific Exploration

ree

The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in Kochi has inaugurated its new SphereVerse facility at the Centre for Science in Society (C-SiS), setting a benchmark for scientific visualization and immersive learning in India.

SphereVerse features an advanced virtual lab, allowing visitors to explore the marvels of science through the lens of virtual reality. With a spherical display, students and viewers can visually engage with topics such as latitude-longitude, complex weather systems, atmospheric patterns, and environmental changes—making geography and astronomy both captivating and educational.

Inspired by the globally renowned Science on a Sphere (SoS) developed by NOAA, SphereVerse brings this world-class scientific visualization technology home. With dynamic displays of climate data and planetary movements, the facility marks a leap in India’s science education infrastructure. CUSAT’s new lab aims to spark scientific curiosity and nurture awareness among students and the public, especially children attending science outreach and vacation programs.

Kerala’s Industries Minister P. Rajeeve launched the SphereVerse initiative, with CUSAT Vice-Chancellor M. Junaid Bushiri presiding over the ceremony. The new facility is set to become a hub for next-generation science experiences and virtual reality education in India.
