Google has announced a major update to Android XR, bringing new tools that make headset experiences more natural, immersive, and enterprise-ready. The rollout begins today for Samsung Galaxy XR devices.
1. Auto-Spatialization: Transform 2D into 3D
A new experimental feature lets users convert almost any app, game, website, image, or video into a 3D spatial experience. From YouTube videos to Chrome browsing, auto-spatialization adds depth and immersion with a single toggle in the Labs tab.
2. Expanding Immersive App Library
The XR ecosystem now includes over 100 apps optimized for immersive use, doubling since Galaxy XR’s launch. Highlights include Real VR Fishing and Trombone Champ: Unflattened. Sports fans can enjoy the Paris St. Germain Immersion app, streaming live matches as if seated in the stadium.
3. Pin Apps to Physical Walls
Users can now anchor apps to real-world surfaces, turning walls into workspaces or entertainment hubs. Imagine pinning a calendar next to your desk or fixing a streaming app to your living room wall for a virtual big-screen experience.
4. Natural Hand Interactions
Instead of outlines, users now see their real hands interacting with virtual content. This feature enhances precision and keeps users visually grounded, making gestures like swipes and pinches more intuitive.
5. Seamless Session Restoration
Picking up where you left off is easier than ever. The headset now restores previous sessions automatically, reopening apps and layouts instantly—whether you paused a movie or left a workspace mid-task.
Enterprise & Accessibility Enhancements
Beyond consumer features, Android XR now supports Android Enterprise, enabling organizations to deploy immersive training and collaboration solutions. Partnerships with ArborXR, ManageXR, Microsoft Intune, Omnissa Workspace ONE, Samsung Knox Manage, and SOTI ensure workplace readiness. Accessibility improvements, hand tracking, and eye tracking further refine usability.
