Le Musk began its journey in 2016, born from a conversation between A.R. Rahman and his wife, Saira Rahman, who shares his passion for perfumes. She once asked, “Why isn’t scent used as a narrative device in cinema?” That question sparked Rahman’s imagination. Around the same time, a friend introduced him to VR technology — and the idea of building a world that engages all senses took root.
📅 Production Timeline
Shot in Rome using 360-degree VR cameras
Produced in 2016–2017, with its first preview at NAB Las Vegas in April 2017
Developed in collaboration with Ideal Entertainment, Intel, Zilvermeer Productions, and Thenandal Studio Limited
🧠 The Process
Filmed using Positron Voyager motion chairs, which integrate scent dispensers and haptic feedback
Viewers experience the film in a specially designed VR pod, where motion, scent, and sound are synchronized
Rahman directed and scored the film, working with a global team of technologists and artists
🎭 Storyline The narrative follows Juliet Merdinian, an orphaned heiress and musician (played by Nora Arnezeder), who embarks on a quest to find three mysterious men — each identified by a distinct scent. The story is a sensory thriller, weaving memory, music, and olfactory cues into a poetic chase across time and emotion.

🎶 The Music Rahman composed an original score that blends ambient textures, orchestral swells, and immersive sound design. At the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, he unveiled “Scent of a Song”, a hauntingly beautiful piece from the film’s soundtrack that mirrors Juliet’s emotional journey.
Le Musk isn’t just a film — it’s a multi-sensory experience that redefines cinematic storytelling.
A.R. Rahman has officially unveiled his directorial masterpiece Le Musk — a groundbreaking multi-sensory VR film — at the India Game Developers Conference (IGDC) 2025 in Chennai.
Running from November 5 to 7, this special showcase marks the India debut of what’s being hailed as the world’s first fully integrated multi-sensory virtual reality cinematic experience. Presented by ARR Immersive Entertainment in collaboration with Madras MindWorks, Le Musk is a 37-minute journey that fuses sight, sound, touch, and even smell into a seamless artistic experience.
